The US Telemark Ski Association (USTSA) announced the 18 members of the US National Team for the 2010-2011 season.

The women’s “A” Team will be led by 18 year old Lorin Paley of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Lorin had a spectacular season last year with 4 podium finishes on the World Cup circuit. Lorin was accepted to Dartmouth to continue her education, but will be taking a one year deferral in order to train and race the World Cup circuit, which includes the World Championships in Rjukan, Norway in March. Erika Walters, also of Steamboat Springs will join Lorin on the “A” team and will work to balance the demands of college and of racing.

Salt Lake City-based headwear and apparel company Discrete recently signed three leading freeheel athletes to their brand. Tele gurus Eben Mond, Andy Jacobsen and Charlie Cannon will be joining 40+ skiers and riders as part of the 2010/2011 team.

Julian Carr, who founded Discrete in 2003, said he is excited to tighten the company’s bonds with the Tele world. “Discrete is so pumped on Tele skiing,” he said via email. “We love embracing this aspect of the sport. Mond, Jacobsen and Cannon have a wealth of collective experience as competitors and big mountain skiers, we are stoked to see what they bring for 2010/2011.”

After a two-year hiatus, Alyeska Resort launched its own freestyle camp program to further support its growing terrain park and super pipe investment. Demand from Anchorage freestyle alpine skiers, freeheelers and snowboarders has been very positive; offering a dedicated freestyle camp program encourages progression to all variants of freeskiing and riding.

Telemark Skiers Converge On Breckenridge For Annual Slopestyle Event

Last weekend highlighted some of the most progressive telemark park riding to date. Competitor Kjell Ellefson noted, “This is the premiere event in the country for freeride telemark. The culmination of all aspects of park skiing along with the extensive cash purse makes for an incredible weekend!”

It was an incredible bluebird day here in Crested Butte, Colorado and the competitors were going off! With five inches of fresh fluff to start the day on Sock-It-To-Me Ridge, all the competitors had a shot at the top honors with great conditions. But it was the Crested Butte locals that really put the hammer down to take home the cash purse and the bragging rights until next year.

The first day of competition proved to be challenging with pounding snow and often times very low visibility. That didn't stop the best Telemark skiers in the country from charging towards the top spots though! Check out who our Leaders are heading into the final day.
